The mission of the I CAN Centre for Assistive Technology is to positively affect, through the use of assistive technology, the lives of people who have disabilities. The centre helps people with disabilities to be able to do things for themselves, providing them with independence they might not have otherwise.
Some examples of this include: managing a telephone, using a wheelchair to get around, using speech generating devices to communicate with those around them, and operating state-of-the-art technology to turn on lights, TV, and other devices. The I CAN Centre brings adaptive technology into the lives of its patients to help them achieve higher degrees of independence and allows care to go beyond the walls of the hospital.
