Tenzr Turns Rehab Into a Game Patients Want to Play

Rehabilitation is one of the most important parts of the healthcare journey when someone gets hurt. It can be slow, repetitive, and difficult to sustain, and it can feel frustrating for patients. But with nearly 98 percent of recovery happening outside the clinic, success depends on what patients do at home.

Tenzr Health saw the problem and built a solution.

Tenzr has developed an engaging platform that combines wearable sensors, gamification, and artificial intelligence to make rehabilitation more engaging, more consistent, and ultimately more effective.

β€œTenzr helps therapists transform recovery into an engaging, game-like experience that patients actually want to do,” says Gautam Sadarangani, President & Chief Operating Officer at Tenzr Health. β€œTherapists can turn rehab into a multi-level game, set goals, track progress, and guide patients every step of the way. Patients often call us the β€˜Duolingo of Rehab’ because it makes sticking to exercises fun and motivating.”

For clinicians, Tenzr offers a web-based portal that provides oversight without adding extra burden. Therapists can see how often a patient exercises, how well they perform, and when additional support might be needed.

β€œThe Glenrose Hospital Foundation looks to support innovations that improve outcomes in real, measurable ways,” says Dr. Jessica D’Amico, Scientific Program Lead at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. β€œTenzr combines care and technology to give patients better results and therefore a better quality of life.”

That impact extends to how care is delivered. Therapists can use Tenzr to extend support between visits, helping patients stay motivated and arrive better prepared for each in-clinic session. Unlike one-size-fits-all solutions, Tenzr is configurable, letting each therapist tailor the platform to their own workflow and deliver individualized recovery plans.

This flexibility is especially important for people living with mobility challenges or those in rural and remote communities where access to rehabilitation clinics is limited. With Tenzr, geography is no longer a barrier. Patients can continue their recovery programs at home while still receiving guidance from healthcare professionals.

β€œDriving progress in care means creating tools that make recovery more effective,” D’Amico adds. β€œTenzr is helping patients stay engaged and achieve improvements that last well beyond the clinic.”

The Glenrose Hospital Foundation recognized the potential early on and supported the implementation of Tenzr with funding from Prairies Economic Development Canada. Their investment has been critical in expanding access to this technology across Alberta, ensuring more people benefit from a model of care that is both innovative and connected.

β€œPartnering with the Glenrose Hospital Foundation has been extremely valuable,” says Sadarangani. β€œIt has helped us better understand the needs of the Canadian healthcare system and enabled Tenzr to expand its reach, allowing more clinics to adopt the technology and benefit more patients.”

The results have been remarkable.

β€œSome clinics using Tenzr have reported an increase in completion rates from 30% to nearly 80%,” says Sadarangani. β€œWhen patients complete their care plans, they see real improvements, avoid setbacks, and reduce the risk of re-injury or needing additional care.”

Tenzr is making recovery something people look forward to, not something they must endure. With support from the Glenrose Hospital Foundation, patients are gaining the tools, confidence, and motivation to take charge of their healing, helping to shape the future of rehabilitation.

β€œThe Glenrose champions innovation that redefines human ability,” says D’Amico. β€œTenzr demonstrates how technology can turn possibility into progress for patients.”

By reimagining rehab and making it engaging, Tenzr is helping patients stick with their programs and succeed in recovery. It’s a simple change with a powerful impact.
